106.7 The Fan made its debut today in the Washington DC area, The Sports Junkies kicked off the festivities at 6am and were followed by the Mike Wise Show with Bill Rohland at 10am and eventually ended the afternoon drive at 6pm with The Lavar Arrington Show with Chad Dukes.

106.7 The Fan’s birth could mean the eventual death of the other local sports radio station, WTEM, which is currently owned by Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder. The rumors making the rounds today are that Snyder is interested in buying the new sports station, currently owned by CBS, because most observers maintain the opinion that Snyder doesn’t want anyone talking bad about him or his organization and would love to be the filter through which the content is run.

I personally believe 106.7 The Fan is in the right hands, having listened to all 3 shows today, I firmly believe this station will succeed. I don’t think any changes need to be made and if Snyder were to buy the station you can certainly expect changes to take place. The main change would seem to be Lavar Arrington, he will not be holding anything back when talking about his former employer, and if Snyder was to purchase the station you can certainly expect Arrington being forced keep many of his feelings to himself.

There was also mention that Snyder was ‘pissed’ that the Redskins Cheerleaders were part of the celebration to unveil the new 106.7 The Fan press conference at the Verizon Center last week, Snyder clearly knows 106.7 The Fan will be direct competition for his struggling station. Snyder is and always will be a man who is about the power…if you have it, he wants it and will do almost anything to get it.
